Electronic Dog Fence

Electronic fences are used primarily to keep dogs from roaming outside property boundaries. Electronic fences are installed by burying wire below the ground surface along the desired boundaries. Dogs wear special collars that emit shocks as they approach and pass the buried wires.

Use of electronic fencing depends on your feelings about pets. Some people are strongly opposed to using shock collars on dogs. However, many dog owners who have electronic fences say they are extremely effective, teaching dogs to stay within exact property boundaries.

Electronic fences obviously provide no privacy. But they may make you a better neighbor if your dog tends to freely roam. You should discuss with a service professional the best boundaries on your property to install an electronic fence. If the fence is placed too close to a neighbor's property, it may inadvertently be cut during landscaping, gardening or other work requiring digging.

Electronic fences require little maintenance but should be checked regularly. If you're not sure that your dog would respond to an electronic fence, see if you can test the product first.
